Marketing Tip of the Week

Coffee Shop Chats

Casual Conversations That Quietly Build Real Trust

If you’ve ever done real estate from a coffee shop, you know the magic. The background noise. The clink of mugs. The accidental overheard conversations that remind you, you’re working in a people business. Coffee shops aren’t just for caffeine. They’re low-pressure relationship builders hiding in plain sight.

Here’s the truth most agents overlook: people open up faster when they don’t feel like they’re “meeting with a REALTOR®.” A coffee shop feels neutral. Safe. Human. No office walls. No sales energy. Just two people talking life with real estate naturally woven in.

When you invite a past client, referral partner, or even a “maybe someday” lead for coffee, you change the dynamic. You’re not pitching. You’re listening. That alone sets you apart in a world where everyone else is rushing to send a CMA before trust exists.

And yes, this works even if you’re busy. Especially if you’re busy. A 25-minute coffee chat between showings can do more for your long-term business than a week of posting into the void. Why? Because people remember how you made them feel, not how often you posted.

Coffee chats are also sneaky-smart content opportunities. A photo of your cup. A quick story about a conversation (no names, of course). A lesson learned from a local business owner. That’s authentic marketing. That’s how agents improve visibility without feeling salesy.

Here’s the kicker: you don’t even have to talk real estate much. When people trust you as a person, they’ll bring up housing on their own, usually when you least expect it. That’s when the real conversations start.

So if your marketing feels heavy, forced, or exhausting, zoom out. The simplest strategies are often the most effective. A dream without a plan is just a wish, but a plan doesn’t have to be complicated.

Coffee. Conversation. Consistency.

That’s a marketing move you can actually enjoy.

Try This Today

Text one past client or referral partner and say, “I’ll be near [local coffee shop] this week...want to grab a quick coffee and catch up?” No agenda. Just connections.

If you already do coffee chats or you’ve avoided them, either way, I’d love to hear your take. What’s been your experience?

Thought of the Week

Lead with Heart

Empathy isn’t weakness; it’s your superpower.

In a business that loves numbers, scripts, and shiny tactics, it’s easy to forget the quiet force that actually closes deals and builds loyalty: how people feel when they’re with you. Empathy doesn’t shout. It listens. It doesn’t rush. It reassures. And here’s the truth we don’t say out loud enough people may forget your stats, your CMA, or your perfectly timed follow-up, but they never forget how you made them feel.

Empathy Builds Trust Faster Than Any Script

We’ve all seen the agent who knows every market stat but can’t read a room. Meanwhile, the agent who leads with heart asks better questions, pauses when things get heavy, and notices when a client is overwhelmed. That’s not soft. That’s skilled. Trust grows when clients feel seen, not sold.

Clients Aren’t Transactions; They’re Transitions

Buying or selling a home usually comes with life changes: new jobs, growing families, downsizing, grief, excitement, or all of the above. When you acknowledge that, you stop being “the agent” and start being their person. Empathy turns a stressful process into a supported one and that’s memorable.

Empathy Creates Raving Fans (Without Trying So Hard)

Funny thing about leading with heart: you don’t have to chase referrals. They show up on their own. When clients feel respected and understood, they talk about you. Not because you asked, but because it feels natural. That’s how relationships scale, one human moment at a time.

This Isn’t About Being Soft; It’s About Being Real

Empathy doesn’t mean avoiding hard conversations. It means having them with care. Pricing talks, inspection issues, and tough negotiations land better when clients know you’re on their side. You can be direct and compassionate.

In fact, that combo is rare and powerful.

What Are Your Thoughts?

When was the last time leading with empathy made a real difference for a client or for you?

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Powerful Lessons in Personal Changes

by Stephen R. Covey

Sharpening the Saw and Sustaining Effectiveness

Some books meet you once. Others meet you where you are. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has been the latter for me. I first encountered it in a Navy classroom, learning how to lead sailors, take responsibility, and support a mission bigger than myself. Today, I come back to it not because I forgot the lessons, but because life has given them new meaning.

What makes this book worth repeating is its grounding in principles, not trends. The habits don't chase productivity hacks or motivational highs. Instead, they focus on character, clarity, discipline, relationships, and renewal, the things that quietly shape effectiveness over time. Each reread feels less like learning something new and more like holding up a mirror. The principles stay the same, but your perspective changes as your roles, responsibilities, and priorities evolve.

This book grows with you. Whether you're leading others, building a business, navigating change, or simply trying to live with more intention, the habits have a way of surfacing exactly what you need to work on next.

That's why I think you should read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. And if you've already read it, I'd argue it's worth revisiting. Not because the book changes, but because you do. Each season reveals a different habit that deserves your attention.

So here's the real question I'll leave you with:

Which habit do you know you need to lean into this year?

Please share your thoughts on whether you've already read it or are reading it now. I would love to hear what you think! And, if you're looking for more inspiring reads, don't forget to check out my book 📚 club.

Yours truly,
