Marketing Tip of the Week

"Word of the Week" - Make Real Estate Lingo Less Intimidating

Teach one term. Build trust. Sound like the calm expert in the room.

Ever notice how real estate sounds like its own secret language? Contingencies. Escrow. Appraisal gap. It’s no wonder buyers and sellers feel overwhelmed before they even get started. Here’s the thing, people don’t want to feel sold to. They want to feel smart.

And that’s where a simple “Word of the Week” quietly becomes one of your most effective marketing tools.

The idea is easy. Once a week, you teach one real estate term in plain English. No jargon pile-up. No legal lecture. Just a clear explanation that makes your audience say, “Ohhh… that finally makes sense.” When people understand the language, they feel more confident. And confident clients trust the guide. That’s you.

This approach works especially well because real estate terms usually pop up right when emotions are running high. Think about a buyer hearing “we’re waiting on the appraisal” or a seller seeing “contingent” show up on their listing. A short, friendly explanation before that moment helps calm nerves and builds reassurance.

You’re not just creating content; you’re lowering stress. That’s real value.

If you want to see how this plays out in video form, this is exactly why I built my “What That Really Means…” playlist. Each episode breaks down one real estate term in a simple, human way, no pressure, no fluff. It’s a great example of how agents can turn everyday questions into trust-building content.

You can check it out here: 👉 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVF9j4LInY8WvjFdVdaw9fWqMvdmsBD_Q&si=fKQ7otqUiIUqUOG-

From an SEO and AEO standpoint, this kind of content pulls double duty. People are already asking, “What does escrow mean in real estate?” or “What is a contingency?” When you consistently answer those questions, you position yourself as the helpful local expert and not the loud salesperson. Search engines notice. More importantly, so do people.

Keep it simple. Same format each week. Same tone. Same branding. Over time, your audience comes to expect it. They may not comment every time, but when they’re ready, they already trust you.

A dream without a plan is just a wish. This is one of those plans that’s easy to keep and hard to beat.

Try This Today

Pick one real estate term your clients regularly stumble over. Write a 2–3 sentence explanation like you’re talking to a friend over coffee. Post it. Then ask, “What word should I explain next?”

Now I’m curious, what real estate word do your clients trip over the most?

Thought of the Week

Because the unseen work is doing more than you think.

Let’s be honest, most of the work that actually moves the needle in real estate happens when nobody’s clapping. No comments. No likes. No “OMG you’re crushing it!” texts. Just you, your calendar, and that quiet decision to do the work anyway. And while it may not feel glamorous, that quiet consistency is where real momentum is born.

The Myth of Overnight Success

We love a good highlight reel. The sold posts, the multiple-offer stories, the “busy but blessed” captions. What we don’t see is the months, sometimes years of showing up when results were slow and confidence was shaky. Success didn’t arrive overnight. It arrived because someone kept doing the boring stuff long after the novelty wore off.

Quiet Discipline Is a Superpower

Making your follow-up calls when no one is cheering. Recording videos that only 37 people watch. Writing offers that don’t get accepted. Posting content even when engagement is crickets. That’s discipline. And discipline compounds. It builds skill, confidence, and trust, both in the market and in yourself.

Why the Quiet Seasons Matter Most

When business slows down, it’s tempting to ease up. But that’s exactly when consistency matters more. The agents who keep learning, keep nurturing relationships, and keep showing up during the quiet seasons are the ones positioned to win when the market shifts. Quiet seasons don’t mean wasted time, they mean preparation.

Loud Results Are Built Softly

Here’s the truth most people don’t like to hear: loud results are the echo of quiet effort. The listing calls you “out of the blue” because you stayed in touch. The referral comes through because you showed up consistently, not conveniently. The confidence in your consultations comes from reps no one ever saw.

What Are Your Thoughts?

Where do you feel called to stay consistent right now, even if it feels quiet or unseen and how do you remind yourself that the work still counts?

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Powerful Lessons in Personal Changes

by Stephen R. Covey

Sharpening the Saw and Sustaining Effectiveness

Habit 7 is Covey’s reminder that effectiveness isn’t something you achieve once and keep forever. It’s something you maintain. After all the focus on discipline, priorities, and relationships, this habit pulls everything together and asks a simple but essential question: Are you taking care of the instrument that does the work? Without renewal, even the best systems and intentions eventually wear down.

Key Points

  • Effectiveness requires balance across physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
  • Continuous learning and reflection keep growth from stagnating.
  • Renewal isn’t optional without it, burnout is inevitable and effectiveness declines.

My Reaction

This habit has always felt like the quiet truth-teller of the book. It reminds me that no matter how disciplined or driven I am, effectiveness fades if I don’t intentionally pause to renew. The line that keeps coming back to me is simple but powerful: you don’t sharpen once, you sharpen often. That mindset has changed how I think about rest, learning, and long-term sustainability.

Sharpen the Saw reinforces that effectiveness is a long game. It’s not about squeezing more output from yourself, but about staying capable, clear, and grounded over time. This final habit ensures that everything Covey teaches can actually last. Without renewal, the habits weaken. With it, they compound year after year.

Please share your thoughts on whether you've already read it or are reading it now. I would love to hear what you think! And, if you're looking for more inspiring reads, don't forget to check out my book 📚 club.
